What the? At 10:49, the unit uses an LSI Logic CPU. Normally, Panasonic uses its own Panasonic MPEG decoder CPUs inside their hardware. It is cool to see an LSI inside Panasonic hardware on this kind of DVR. I have a Panasonic DMR-EX95V and EX98V VHS-HDD-DVD recorder, and both of them have a Panasonic CPU inside.

i have this washer in 2024, i bought it second hand when moving into my first apartment and i HATE IT. i was very use to the newer school washer and genuinely thought the older one would be better but its SUCKS. it takes almost 2 hours to wash a load. my clothes do not smell fresh and the washer literally does not spin completely dry half of the time. also i feel like it does not fill with enough water AT ALL.

My dad had this exact unit that we used until the 2000s. It was a great unit. From what I recall, we had it repaired once in the late 90s. I wish he held onto it.

It would be great if you could share both the FRONT and the REAR parts in mp3 of each quadraphonic cartridge in your collection through the SOULSEEK program. To be able to search for them you could name Quadraphonic FRONT and Quadraphonic REAR and the name of the song and Artist

The reason I love the old Misfits is my rich aunts kids had this and the trivia "tape" about 50's movies. I was 10 then 3 years later heard them. Loved them since 1984.

Thanks for the video, haven't seen such a beautiful designed machine for multimedia presentation. so easy to change the pictures suceeding each other putting the presentation together on short notice, exchanging single slides including their audio comment. just brillant.

I had a " hifi" vcr and the sound was terrible. A lot of the time it was like bubbles .

Useless experiment. Linear stereo itsef had its limits and was never designed being hifi. Frequency response (at the very best, on a good day) 50 Hz - 12 kHz.

@databits --- Do you think a product like this still has a market? Portable media player, able to record direct from TV, maybe play some basic games, play from SD cards, maybe have Wi-Fi, SIM, TV/radio antenna? Seems good for road trips and places without poor signal.

They were garbage....My dad had an Hitachi player and we watched Captain Pugwash plus Tom and Jerry on it but the thing was constantly skipping 🙄👎

Seeing that arcing in the deflection yoke brings to mind the GE YA chassis sets with the yoke failure problem. Apparently the different colored enameling on the windings reacted and broke down causing a shorted yoke.

i have found that dbx type 1 is superior to dolby b,c, and even s if all the levels are properly set, the only drawback to dbx is it is very temperamental and if your levels arent set just right you will get breathing and/or volume pumping

Nice that you used "Orange Drops" . I usually use them in audio, vintage color chassis, and Stromberg-Carlson radios, and use "yellow jackets" in most other restorations. Great work on the Muntz ! 😊

The little brush you see touching the drive belt for the video head was to discharge any static electricity that would cause noise in the picture. Yes, I worked for a dealer that sold these and have a hazy memory of the training school we attended.

I've always liked DBX and Dolby A.

one drawback of the Hi-Fi stereo was that it couldn't be dubbed over existing recorded video.

midrange boosted dramatically with the dbx - I like it for cassette tapes but this might be overkill unless you wanted that heavy compressed sound which could be a cool effect for an audio project, dbx passed drums can sound so good. - someone hard of hearing woudl also benefit from the dbx unit... not so much compression where it's a wall of noise still retains some dynamics

I also have a linear stereo Video 2000 machine, a VR2340. The sound quality is very loud and clear, but it's clearly slow-speed linear and isn't really much better than optical film soundtracks and is indeed very hissy. More than adequate for going through a TV speaker, but they may as well have just stuck with mono for that. It's not as if there were any pre-recorded V2000 titles by that time, and who ever had any OTA stereo broadcasts to record (although thinking about it they probably did in Germany where more of these machines were sold)?

I'd argue Hi-Fi Stereo was actually better than CD Quality because its notional frequency ceiling is higher than 44.1kHz and more like the 48kHz of studio recordings at the time - there's not any actual quantization going on, it's just acting like a linear tape deck with a blisteringly fast tape speed.

Is there a way to wire the DBX decoder so that you only need to press the "dbx out" button instead of changing the cable setup? Perhaps you just did it for the demonstration, yes it's easy to understand. Anyway, I was to glad when stereo Hi-Fi VCRs came out, best sound recordings ever before burning a CD was a thing.

I used a 140x type 2 unit on a pc wth a noisey sound card. The sound card noise modulated with the signal like tape hiss does.

Linear sound tracks on VCR's ofen had poor tracking which would kill dbx decoding. Might work great on umatic and type c 1" open real vtr's. I think they ran a 9.6ips.

@databits --- Since CED and VHD are just really advanced records, would they be readable by a laser stylus like ELP uses in their laser turntable?

Basically dbx would have reduced the noise better than Dolby B but would not have fixed the limited frequency response and wow and flutter. VHS HiFi was so much better and I got my first HiFi deck, a Mitsubishi HS421UR, on April 3, 1987 and it made excellent audio recordings.

The VHS HiFi Stereo introduced by JVC in 1984 (modulated on 2 carriers in the video signal) was much better and did not need noise reduction.

13:00 That's the sound of half of music videos in 90s TV. 😬 The sound of incompatibility or letting noobs operate the equipment. Your narration sounds bad also, you had better audio for a while after having the low bitrate sound for a long time. But no one actually cares about that, so I guess you can continue using that phone to record it, not worth the trouble.
